Magic Carpet Ride 2025: A Sparkling Evening of Belly Dance

Burlington, IN — April 12, 2025

Magic filled the air in Burlington, Indiana, as dancers, music lovers, and community members gathered for Magic Carpet Ride, a vibrant belly dance showcase that brought energy and heartfelt connection to the stage. Held on April 12, 2025, the event was organised by Troupe Shalimar, a local dance troupe under the artistic direction of Bonnie Dieter (Tamara Silverheel) known for their creativity and artistry!

The evening offered not just entertainment, but a strong sense of community spirit that left attendees eager for more.

“It turned out to be a warm, intimate dance event,” said Debbie Eriksen, costuming maven of Troupe Shalimar. “It was a fun experience blessed with the support of our local community, but also a learning opportunity for us as event organizers. We meant this to be groundwork for holding an annual dance event in the future. Now that we are more familiar with the process, our next event will be run more easily.”

Troupe Shalimar dazzled the audience by performing 8 of the 10 show numbers, each in a unique costume! “It was quite an experience!” Eriksen added, reflecting on the teamwork, creative effort, and logistical problem solving that the troupe poured into the event to make it a success.

Both dancers and participants found the experience enriching. Donna Carlton shared her thoughts on the event:

“Learning the choreography to Shik Shak Shok was so fun since the piece is very lively and has lots of changes. The choreography notes were much appreciated, as well. Then in the evening, Troupe Shalimar put on a wonderful show with a lot of variety.”

But the generosity and warmth extended beyond the choreography and the stage. Attendee Doris Myers was unexpectedly invited to perform—without a costume in hand. That’s when the sisterhood of dance shined.

“The ladies of Troupe Shalimar were absolute sweethearts—so kind and welcoming!” Myers said. “They all came to my rescue, going right to their troupe wardrobe and outfitting me beautifully from top to bottom!”

The event not only showcased performance but planted the seeds for future offerings. Myers hinted at one exciting possibility:

“Tantalizing titbits — Debbie hinted that she hopes to host a sewing workshop, including how to work with difficult fabrics…!”
